About Modal Vector AI
Modal Vector AI is a Perth-based health technology company building intelligent tools for people managing complex care.
We exist because the health, disability, and aged care systems in Australia weren't designed to work together, and the people who depend on them pay the price every day. We're building technology that bridges those gaps: giving individuals, families, and clinicians the clarity and control they need.
The name reflects what we do. "Modal" refers to the multiple modes of health information (clinical notes, NDIS plans, specialist letters, personal records) that we bring together. "Vector" represents both the mathematical embeddings that power our AI and the idea of direction: understanding where someone's health journey has been and where it's heading.
The founder
I'm Detlev Kerkovius, and I founded Modal Vector AI because I've lived the problem we're solving.
For years, I've been a carer for someone navigating complex, intersecting health and disability systems. I've seen firsthand how fragmented information, poor coordination, and endless administration create an invisible burden that falls on the people least equipped to carry it.
My professional background spans data governance, data science, and human-centred design, building systems that make complex information usable. I started Modal Vector AI to bring those skills to the problem that matters most to me: making the health system work for people, not against them.
I'm based in Perth, Western Australia, and I'm building this company with the belief that the best health technology is built by people who understand the real-world consequences of getting it wrong.
